The Osaka Shosen Kaisa is reported to be trying to dissuade the Nippon Yasen Kaisha for seceding from the Java Freight Conference. However, the N.Y.K. assumes such a strong attitude that it sets aside the O.S.E.'s advice and is determined to use A free band outside the Confer- ence, being determined to gɔ: even with one of the companies in the Conference, which is paid to bave gone behind the agree ment and been capturing evan the shipments already contracted for elsewhere since April or May, advice given by the NY.K. It is and which bas igured all the believed, however, that the N.Y.K. may be persuaded to remaig in the Conference on certilo co- ditions. The Jiji says, on this topic, that it stands to re101 that, in the case of the N.Y.K. not accepting the advice of the O.S.K. the ontward Japan-Java line will become a one of rivalry.

In the Java-Calcutta line also the 0.9.8. is already waging a freight war in defiance of the Bengal Conference which has long been reported as being most firmly consolidated. The chief cargo between Java' and Calenita is sugar, of which the greater part is being absorbed by the Conference ships, but the lower OS.K. rates io comparfagn with the Conference rates enable the 0.9.K. to'secure proper ship- imanta. In the Calcutta-Japan line further, the O.S.E. is Carry- ing on a searching competition

with the N.Y.K., Indo-Cha

0.9.K. from taking shipments, the 0.3.K. has lowered its (AIO tevazi below the Con- (ference rate and is thus contend-- ing with it for supremedy, Á l'e competition in this triangle is thus intensifying, the attention of Tapping - interests is directed

thereto.
