The Belfast Committee of the Engineering and Shipbuilding Trades Federation, at a con- ference held in Messrs. Harland and Wolff office on the question of a sliding scale for the regula tion of wages proposed that this bonus should be embodied in the firm's scheme. This has not been found desirable by the shipbuild- ing firms, who feel sure that thi proposal they are now making in the best way of getting over the difficulty and meeting the objec- tion put forward against the with- drawal of large amounts at one time. Special meetings of the vations 1ocieties will be called to coasider the proposal as outlined above. Harland

Wolff's and sliding scale scheme for the future regulation of wages based on the cost of living as published by the Board of Trade Journal is still receiving the consideration of the engineering and shipbuild- ing trade unions.

THREE-HALFPENNY POST CARD TO REMAIN.

Return to Old Rates Only When Accounts Warrant It. No decision has been reached as to any alteration in the three- halfpenny rate for postcards.

A. Press. representative was i formed at the G.P.O. that any statement that the revenue has dropped in consequence of the rate is unfounded, as no special ratums in regard to revende have been made.

The Postmaster-General hopes. that a return to the old rate MITI be possible, and such return will be introduced when the accounts warrant it.
