SYNTHETIC INDIGO. According to the Jjf, the Daido Dyestuff Company has entered linto

with agreements

the Badische Anilin Fabrik and another company in Germany for the sole selling agency of their imports of artificial indigo. The terms stipulated are that when the margin of profis amounts to over a fixed sum, the Daido company will be granted a fixed subsidy in proportion of the excess profit to the anle receipts but will lose that privilege, if it handles indigo of other companies. This is expeat- ed to give a heavy blow to iraports of American dyes and domestic manufacturers. The would-be sufferers consider that this runs counter to the policy of protecting domestic industry, and are now considering measures to be taken up. The demand for synthetic indigo bas become less than usual. The quotation in the producing countries has declined, and the Japanese market bas grown idle. The price has fallen to Y50 per cask, showing a decline of Y50 as compared with the middle of last month.

MANILA MARKETS. Messrs. Warner, Barnes & Co., Ltd. Manila. in their latest cit cular to hand state: We have ex- perienced a dull and dragging Hemp market during the fort- night under review, very little buying interest being displayed by any of the exporting houses, which has resulted in prices de- clining still further. There has been considerable enquiry from Chius and Japao during the past few days for augar, and fairly large transactions have taken place in Itoilo for Nos. 3, 4 and 5, on which qualities demand prin- cipally rang. Moderate quan- tities of centrifugals, and Nos. 1 and 2, bave also changed hands. Market closes firm with upward tendency. The Copra market is firm

with good demand. The coal market is firmer, owing to improvement in Japan due to better demand generally. The Australian manket is also firmer, owing to scarcity of supplies and restrictions.-The Governmest Rice markes bas ruled weak dur- ing the past fortnight due to Hack of demand and prices lave declined. - American Flour market has ruled steady and local demand is noticeably brisker. The reported drought in Europe should have a stiffening effect on prices from the U.S.A.
