There are such things as ambushes and traps: and more than one party has found itself surrounded by robbers, and only escaped with the loss of many of its effectives.
In such cases real beraism is needed, even if it is the heroism of despair. Thers occur instances, however, in which these irregular are attacked by robbers in thair own quarters; and the usual pro- cedure on such occasions is to take refuge in untimely fight. Our warriors prefer a war of mover ent to a war of positions. Discretion is the better part of valour.
Let the cry of "Rob bera!" be heard, and they fly incontinent, leaving their rifles behind them. This may sound incredible, but it is true. stand-up fight is rare.

TIME SIONALS. The time ball Kowloon Signal Hill is dropped daily af 10 (am. and 4 p.m. except on Satur days when it is dropped at 10 a.m. and i p.m., sad on Sundays and Holidays when it is dropped at 10a.m. only.
The ball is hoisted half mast at the 55th minute and fall mast at the 57th minute. Should the ball Fail to drop at the correct time, it will be lowered at five minutes past the hour and the ordinary routine repeated at the following hour, if possible.
Should the time ball be out of order the above routine will be par. carried out with the flag "Z", on par.the storm signal mast.
