The Tjikawa Electric Company has bean contamplating competition with the Daido Electric Power Company and its adherents, which have begun to "invade this district. As a first step, it bas decided to absorb the. Omi Hydro-electric Company which is situated in a convenient place for the northward transmission of power. It also intends to estab lish a power station at Kusatsu, Shiga-ken to supply power to the Gifu, Kyoto, and Osaka districty.

RAILWAY COMPETITION IN MANCHURIA.

The South Manchuria Railway Company, to meet the competition of the Chinese Eastern Railway, which was drawing all the North Manchurian special produce to Vladivostok by its decrease of railway rates, has affected a 30 per cent decrease in its freight rates. This decrease has been more or less productive of a re- covery of business. But, says the
