OIL SUPPLY STATIONS. To meet the requirements of oil- using vessels, British oil-supply etations are being instituted all over the world, and over 200 of these stations are already in existence.

THE JAVA TRADE; PROSPERITY

OF SUBSIDISED LINE. The activities of the Nanyo Husen Kaisha have been notable in these depres ed days. It has been engaged in trade between Robe and Sourabs a with the chartered ships Ryojun-maru and Banri-maru. But it bas baitt four ships of its own at the Mitsubishi Yard, Kobe. The Cheoibanmaru, which has been completed earliest, left for its destination at the beginning of the current month, followed by the Macassar-maru, Samarang- maru, and Borneo-maru. .The company intends to mase mora than sixteen trips a year. It is reported that an agreement has been signed between it and the Government for subsidies from May 1st, 1921. to March 31st, 1923.

JAPANESE MAIL SUBSIDIES,

It is officially announced that an ordinance as to mail aubsidies has been banded by the Minister of Communications to the Nippon Yusen Kaisha in regard to the Yokohama-Loudon tine, Kobe- Seattle line, Kob-Hongkong line, and Yokohama-Melbourne line for three years from the. April. The ships put on these four lines are as follows :-Yoko- hama-London:

REDUCED WAGES IN U.S. SHIPYARDS.

Effective April 1, wagea are t be reduced by 10 per cent. at all. shippers and repair yarde in the New York district, says a writer in Nauticus (New York). The present scale in force at the plant of the Baltimore Dry Docks and Shipbuilding Co. is 720 an hour for first-class machinists, ship- Etters, carpenters, joiners, pip- fitters, riggers, &c. 64e for second-class, and 600 for third- class. The hourly scale for handy men, All trader, is from 50c to 56c an hour, helpers 40 to 48e, ali laboure e 20 to 4te, working leaders, layers out and special mechanics, 77c to 80e. Uneissified ratings aro subject to a 10 percent. reduction from the Macy scale established Oct. 1, 1916. At New Orleans a 30 per cent. reduction is to be put in forca March 15. On the same late the Newport News yard will put in force a reduction in wagrs of from 12 to 15 per cent. The Bethlehem plants have already | put the reduction into effect,
