Mr. M. H. Turner appeared at the Magistracy this morning to defend Dr. J. C. Dalmahoy Allan, who was summoned for driving
his motor car in a reckless man-
ner, and with failing to registor ownership of his car.
Mr. Turner aid his client was going to attend an urgent case.
He admitted that he was driving fast, and said he would do the same in future under similar circumstances. Dr. Allan failed to register ownership of his car through ignorance.

The arrival in Hongkong of Sir James and Lady Lockhart, who their way home by Pyrchus, was Fester- day made the occasion of pleasing functions. The news of the retirement of the British Com- missioner at Wei-hai-wel had been received only a short while proviovely and in view of the devoted service Sir James has given in the discharge of his high office and the pleasant memo-) ries of his former long associa- tion with Hongkong, his short stay in this Colony was utilised to express the feelings of ad- miration and esteem shared by so many. Sir James had formerly hold many official! poste in Hongkong and members of the Chinese community with whom he was brought into close contact arranged a reception and presentation at the Hongkong Hotel at which felicitous speeches were delivered. In the evening a dinner and reception took place at Governmont House and to-day Sir James and Lady Lockhart
