Native Schoolmaster's Views on Ancestor-Worship.

The address of Mr. Kikuchi Kenjiro, the former Friocipal of the Mito Middle School, on the question of national morality has excited public attention that it is now circulated in book form, to gether with an explanatory docu- ment and statement subsequently published and delivered by him in order to remove the doubts and misunderstanding caused by his original spa ch of which an abstract appears in the Japan Chronicle,

Mr.Kikuchi states emphatically that his speech was not intended to be a full exposition of his views on the question of national morality, but a review of the doctrines of certain Professors (such as Dr. Inouye and Dr. Hozumi, notorious for their Chauvinistic views), and asks the reader to bear in mind the neces sary difference between a review and a straight-forward narrativo, when following his arguments.
