ENTERITIS AND CHOLERA
A meeting of the Sanitary Board was held yesterday, Mr A. Gibson presided and there were present: Hon. MrC, G. Alabaster, OBE, Capt. Moutaith, M.Q.H. Dr. Kock, Dr. Osorio, Mr Tso and Mr G. M.W. Raynolds, Secretary.
With regard to the epidemic of gastro-enteritis the Chairman said: The Government Bao- teriologist has, since the epidemio assumed anything like serious importance, examined sa many cases bacteriologically as he could. In all some 200 specimens of faroes Ware examined and an attempt was made to produce cultures of the causal organiNIE. The City and Kowloon water sup. ply has been examined with negative results for the cholera- vibrio, and search has been made for cholera carriers but none have bean found. Certain articles of foodstuffs likely to be contaminat- ed have been examined with negative results. For such canon as are proved by bacteriological ex- amination to bé true cholera a prophylactic vaccine is being pre- pared. The course of procedure regarding the examination of suspected material was agreed upon at a conference of the [P.C.MO, the Government Bac- teriologist, the M.O.R. and the H.S.D. on Sept. 1, and a letter on the subject was sent to all medi- cal practitioners asking for their co-operation. To enlist the ser- vices of the Chinese Public Dis- pensaries & pamphlet was pre- pared and sens to all the Chinese Public Dispensaries by the 8.C.A. for distribution.
The following is a translation of the pamphlet:
