"DRY" ENGLAND CAMPAIGN. The Weekly Dispach gives early news of the coming probi- bition campaign in England in -ita "Secret History." Agents of the World Prohibition Movement. provided with ample funds, are already, arriving in England from the United States. The astound- ing success of the Anti-Saloon League in North America in securing Prohibition in the Unit- ed States and in the whole of Canada, except a portion of Qusbec. is considered to be encouraging sign of the achievement of Prohibition in Great Britain. The adhesion of a number of public men here has already been obtained, and ample funds will be found by the proprietors of cocoa and other temperance drinks.

THE ANGLO-PERSIAN AGREEMENT,

- London, August 18

The Anglo Persian aggreement in nowise means that Britain is assuming fresh and costly obligations nor that Persia has given up any part of her liberties. Persia took the initiative in requesting Britain to help her to rehabili fate the fortunes of Persia because she realised that Britain. was her only great neighbour, closely interested in her future and able and willing to furnish help. The agreement also includes an undertaking that Britain will co-operate with Persia for the encouragement of Anglo Persian enter- prise, to improve means of communication by railway con- struction, etcetera. An Anglo Persian committee of experts will be appointed to revise the Customs tarif with a view to remodelling it to promote the prosperity of the country. The Times" says "Britain's desire is that Persia shall stand on her own feet and with the aid now given her she should be able to reorganise ber administration The Per *sians have now renewed the opportunity to show their capa- city for enlightened government. If they cease from strife sadi purge their departments from corruption the agreement should help to produce definite stabilization in the Middle East of which. Persiz is the core."

The Daily Chronicle says: "It is to Persia's interest and to ours that she be free. It is also to both our interests to shat the door to concession hunters and check the intri gures of Young Turks, Bolsheviks, discontented Mohammed- ans and adventurers."

The "Daily Mail" points out that there is no justifica- tion for any anxiety regarding the complete independence of Persia
