MASSACRES IN GALICIA.

TERRIBLE ATROCITIES.

London, July 16. The newspapers in Warsaw state that the Ukrainian occupation of Eastern Galicia was marked by ferocious atrocities. The priests were forced to hold grenades, after which a light was applied and the victims blown to pieces. The peasants were forced to throw themselves on fires, thus whole villages have been exterminated. The masssers of men, the violation of women and the confiscation of all belongings was general. The Ukrainian Mission to London has stated that the Poles have suffered great losses during the last offensive, losing 8,000 prisoners since June 10. The greater part of the booty taken during General Haller's offensive has been re-captured by the Ukrainians.

The property, which has a frontage of 6236 feet and an area of about 12,400 sq. ft., belongs to the Hongkong Land Invest- ment and Agency Co. Ltd., and the price agreed, we understand, is a little less than half a million dollars..."

The purchase of the building! was made necessary by the rapid growth of the business of the Bank since its opening in Jan- uary this year, and is in line with the tendency of banks to buy pro perty for permanent occupancy, because of the rapidly-narrowing Brea in the central district for their use. I

The Bank had recently acquir ed a buikling in the financial section of the City in Cantón for its Cantor branch which will open for business shortly.

We also understand that the Bank is now arranging with the Company, Nanyang Tobacco Shanghai, for a lease of the new building they intend to erect on the block of buildings they have recently brought at Nanking Road opposite to Messrs. Hall and Holtz Co-operative Company and is at the same time negotiating to purchase suitable premises in Saigon for its agency there. .
