Fred Blackeborough, the York- shire light-weight, came to town with a big reputation on January 20, and at the reopening of the

S. C. he started a bot favourite against Bob Marriott, the ex- amateur champion. Once more, as NO often happens, the experts were proved wrong, and Blakeborough, after a most disappointing display, was forced to retire after the eleventh round had finished. He left the ring with many painful evidences of Marriott's handiwork, and it may be said, that from the start of the very first round he never looked like justifying the high opinion of his admirers.
