Heroic Defence of Merchant Ships. Amongst recent accounts of the destruction of enemy submarines is one in which the merchant captain, though his vessel was attacked by the enemy stopped his engines and swung stern ON to the submarino," commencing to fire at it. After a few shots a thick black column of smoke rose from the water, and the submarine disappeared.
