Moji-Vladivostok Service,

It has been decided that a regularsteamshipservice between Meji and Vladivostok shall be opened with the Penza, 2,678 toris, of the Russian Volunteer Fleet.

Yokohama Dock Co.

At a general meeting of share- holders of the Yokohama Dock Co. held on June 28 a dividend of 10 per cent. was declared and an extraordinary dividend of 15 per cent.

The South Seas Trade. The South Seas Mail Steamship Co., in view of the increase of exports to the South Seas at d the development of the Japanese activities in the occupied islands, has decided to in oresee its capital to Y.5,000,000 shortly to provide· for the running of extra steamers and improving the service gener- ally. Fraace's Biggest Merchant Ship. A cargo vessel, 45' ft, in length, with a total displacement of | 19,000 tona and

a carrying capacity of 12,500 tons, bas been launched at Dunkirk successfully. She is the biggest vessel in the French merchant service. The Germans, aware of the fact that the ship was in process of construction, had endeavoured in every way in vain to stop the work, notably by means of bombardment by long- range gun and by air raide,

Japan to Build Concrete Ships.

Japanese business-men" in Tokyo, Yokohama, Ceska and Kobe are arranging for the establishment of a company to build concrete ships.

The com- pany will have a capital of Y3,500,000, with its head office at Torio and a branch at Osaka, while the dockyard will be established at Uno, on the Inland Sea. In additon to the construct- ion of ships and the manufacture of accessories, the company will undertake shipping business.

An Interestlog New Ship. One of the most interesting stips recently build in England has started on her maiden voy- age. This is the first electrically- ¡propelled merchant vessel ever constructed in a British yard—it is also the largest electric ship in the world and is designed on what is known as the Ljungstrom Tubo-electric system. Output of Ships. Mr. J. W. Isherwood, at the Society of Engineers, said it had bean the practice of the builders of oargo vessels to adopt a standard design. The Government policy of standardisation, how- ever, swept this away, and insisted on builders constracting" vessels to the design of the Deputy Controller of Auxilliary Shipping.
