SHIPPING NEWS.
Profits of Japanese Shipowners.
Mr. Inui Shigetoshi, son-in-law. of Mr. Inui. Shimbel, the well- know shipowner of Kobe, has filed a suit in the Tokyo Chiho Saibansbo, against Mr. Yamamo- to Tadasaburo, the well-known funanarikin, claiming recovery of Y2,500,000 alleged to be due. It is stated that about a dozen |years ago Mr. Inui Shigetoshi Toko, of which Mr. Yamamoto was a partner of the Shosho is now the proprietor. Mr. Ingi gave some hundreds of thousands of gen towards the capital of the Shosho Yoko, and claims he is entitled to receive a share of the profits made by the Shosho Yoko in proportion to the capital he put into the concern. He estim ates his share at Y2,500,000, which amount is now olaimed from Mr. Yamamoto. In defence. Mr. Yamamoto, adınits that in 1908 Mr. fhui entered the Shosho Yoko on the understanding that he should advance money to the firm, borrowing it from his father in-law, and he was attached to the Tientsin branch; butin about six months he was recalled to Kobe by his father-in-law owing to his profligacy, which it is said" made his name a household word in the gay quarters. Since that time Mr: Inui has had nothing to do with the Shosho Yoko, and in 1914 the firm formally struck his name off its list of partners. The case was heard for the first time at the Tokyo Chiho Saiban- abo, and the hearing is shortly to be resumed, when some wit- nesses will be examined-"Japan Chronicle."
How Standard Ships Were Evolved.
The names of the originator and original designers of the "National" Standard ships are now permitted to be riade public.. It appears that last summer Mr. Thomas Graham, B.S.C., at pre- sent a member of the Boyal Corpe of Naval Construction, submitted a design for an ́im- proved highly standardised standard ship to Sir. Eustace. d'Eyncourt, Director of Naval Construction Collaboration be. tween Sir Eustace and Mr. Graham resulted in a form of ship being evolved whose model experimente more than justified the claime originally advanced, and at the same time did not involve a surrender of any of the structural simplicity which was the prime object of the proposals. After searching examination by the leading shipbuilding authori ties, the worth and usefulness of the design were confirmed, and the type was adopted by the Government for their "National" Ships. Mr. Graham, who is a son of the late Mr. Thomas
