LONDON AIR RAI.

German Lieutenant's Stor

Nocturnal "Visit.'

Amsterdam, February 25.-- Lieutenant Gruner, of the Ger man sarial service, has written an account of a "visit". which he claims to have made recently to London. His story, which in printed in the Berlin newspapers follows:

"The English coast must coros into sight soon. Sure enough, there it is in sharp outline, Soon we shall be near enough to realise where we are. Slowly, quite slowly, we approach it. All is peace and quiet. Now the cost lies perpendicularly beneath us We are bearing the goal of our heart's desire. The English are, waiting for us, but we are not disturbed. On we go. Now and then a searchlight picks us up. Now and then a shot fiares out at But notwithstanding these little hindrances, we press on toward our goal. There it is, London! A brilliant wreath of from afar. searchlight sets off the prise

12.5.

“I consult map sad compass, and the order is given: "Cross London from north to south and then veer to eastward.” Beneath me we can see ând hear that our presence is detected,

Lights barst forth and go out, the

Hanger Mr & Mrs F muzale-flashes of anti-aircraft guns. Searchlights stab the sky first, slowly, carefully, anxiously, then wildly. Sometimes they locate nothing buts drift-cloud. Then suddenly they find us. Now the ghostly white stab ig directed straight at our ship and envelopes us.

"Shrapnel bursts fiercely all around up. Shells tear at us lika birde of prey with flaming eyes. Fore and aft, below, above, every-^^ where, they scream and roar. It ia bellish, yet beautiful. And loud above the crash of the shells. we hear the deep bass of öur faiths fal bombs, dropping steadily on their appointed objectives, and always also the orchestral accom paniment of our whirring propell-

ers.

We are doing things in London, all right. There, on our starboard is a mighty cave-in; and there, to port, saother. Midway between them comes a series of explosions, probably a munitions factory. We are certainly letting Ethem have it this time!
