The markets represented by the samples include practically every part of the Empire, also North Africa, China and Siam In-forming the collection every asaistance was received from the Consular Officers and the Dominion and Colonial Governmenta. Great efforts are being made to keep the samples thoroughly up to date. A large collection is now en route to England from the Dutch East Indies.

THE WESTERN FRONT.

London, March 4 A French communique says: There has been lively artillerying during the night in the regions of Beaumont and Betonvaux, also at Bandesspt and east of Bargetzen in Upper Alsace. Following bombardments the enemy at- tempted several raids in the region of Parrop Forest and in the direction of Neuviller in Lorraine. Our fire dispersed the assailants. A lively engagement occurred in the region of Bures in which the enemy were repulsed with appreciable losses. The enemy were unsuccessful also in the direction of Yebo, where we took prisoners.

Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig reports: We repulsed a raid westward of Lens after sharp fighting in which we took prisoners and inflicted casualties. We also drove off raiders at St. Quentin.
