Situation-Still Further Improved.

Landon, October 27. Beuter's correspondent at Headquarters states:-This morning the weather was fine but the ground was indescrib ably bad. A feature of resterday's fighting was the fine advance made by the Canadians along the Passchendaele ridge. The situation in this region was further improved during the aight Hostile shelling is not excessive and it is. believed that most of the gums have been moved toward the rear. It is certain that the enemy is finding great difficulty in main taining communication. News from the German lines shows that 800 men of the 29th Reserve Infantry were recently, imprisoned, owing to their refusal to enter the line at Lens The feed between the enemy artillery and infantry does not seem to lessen.

There is great reciprocal artilery activity on the British battle-front but no infantry action. The number of prisoners since yesterday exceeds 1,100 of whom 300 were taken by the French.

Despite the rain. our aeroplanes yesterday performed valashle work in locating our attacking infantry.and report- ing suitable targets. Our artillery aeroplanes, flying low, fired ten thousand rounds on enemy woop and transports. Two of our machines few down the main-streets of. a town level with the house-tops firing into bodies of enemy troups. Three German aeroplanes 'were brought down and one driven down.
