London September 26. According to Renter's correspondent at Petrograd, the former War Minister, M. Savinkoff, writing to the Bowras Gonette," explains that General Kornilod's revolt was due to a misunderstanding. He mays that after he (M. Sarinko) had obtained M. Kerensky's consent to General Kornilon's reforms and 'General Korniloft had agreed, to M. Kermansky's request to send a Cavalry Corps to Petrograd in view of-the-posibility of Maximalist disorders, K.-Evoff, the former Proraso if the Enly Synod, informed General Korailoff that M. Kerensky was willing to form a Directorate of which M. Kerensky, Gmoral Karnilaff and M. Sarakoff would be the principal members. General Kornilor agreed thereto, and M. Lro thereafter handed M. Kerensky an ultimatum written by himself, and purporting to come from General Kornilon, demanding Korniloff dictatorship. Karensky telegraphically enquired - Do you subscribe so the words of M. Levoff on your behalf?" General Korniloff, being ignorant of M. Liro's ultimatum, replied in the affirmativa,, where- upon he was relieved of his comand and revolted.

Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig reports: Under a nick mist the Germans delivered a powerful counter-attack at dawn on our positions on the ridge between Tower Hamlets and Polygon Wood.
