There was a long discussion at recent meeting of the Cambar- well: Borough Council on a re- commendation' of the Finsnos Committee that a grant of £230 be-paid to the Town Clerk, Mr. O. W. Tagg, who had drawn the committee's attention to the serious love of income he had ex- perienced owing to the war. - When the Town Clerk's salary was fixed it was decided to allow him to receive fees for electioas and registration work, and for the three years preceding the war hisincome from elections amount»- ed to £304 17%, 4d; and from registration fees to £43 8. Germans' Use of Prisoners'

Parcels.

Reuter's Agency learns on good authority that M. Michal, a Russian well known in France, arrived in Rotterdam from a Ger- man prison camp, and brought with him many proofs, and doca- ments showing how Germans profit by parcels sent to prisonera through the fraudulent use of name. He has also photographs demonstrating the way in which the Germans are ill-treating Russian and other prisoners, 400. of whom, he states, died before-- ́ his eyes quits recently. He far- ther says that all the Russian “ priecners would bare died of salvation had it not been for the generosity of their French fellow- prisonera. The new Russian" Government, however, is pow sending them food.

Death of the Rev. B. Baring

Gould.

The Rev. Baring Bering-Goold, for 25 years secretary of the Church Missionary Bociety, died racently at Blackheath, after su operation, at the age of 74. A scholar of Corpus Christi College, |Cambridge, he graduated in 1865, · | and a year later he was ordained by Dr. Henry Philpote, Bishop of Worcester. He was appointed incumbent of All Saints', Bid- mouth, in 1889, and in 1878 went to St. Michael and All Angels, Blackhealb. After an incombency there inating 10 years he joined the staff of the OMS. in Salisbury Square. He Fecretary of the Home Organisation Department, and in 1887 went with a party, of eight others on a special mission to India. Some years later he went round the world visiting missions of the C.M.S., and then became secretary in special charge of various important missions. He retired about two years ago after many years of efficient and unselfish service. ·There were few departments in the Sedisty's work in whiab he had not an im- portant share; and he rendered. special . service to the mission work in Chion.
