During this Scarborough was thrown down, and when on the grund it was alleged he was tabbed fire times.in the back by the accused. When picked Newcastle Shipowner's

Shipplag Developments in the States
New, shipping and shipbuilding corporations with an authorised capital stock of 47,499,00 dole.. were organised in the United States during May, that figure standing as a record for any single month since the war began, and reflecting the enormous ex-". pansion of the maritime interests of the United States. The total. is greater than the aggregle 'capitalisation of similar firms and companies formed during ika period. extending from the open- ing of hostilities until the end of 1917, and brings the total for the. first 34 months of the war up to 232,081,000 dals. Corporations chartered since the severance of diplomatic r 1,tions with Ger- many involve a capital of 120,6-5,400 dols., or something more than half the indicated in- vestment 8.nce August, 1914. The authorised capital stock of shipping companies showed a heavy decline in May as com- paret with the preceding three. months This is probably to be. explained as the result of the uncertainties of the shipping out- Jook, which depended upon suoli factors as the possible introduct ion of Government control of
and of Government requistion of a large part of United States tonnage. A comparison of figures for incor- poration during the war showaths. sitmulation of shipsing enterprise by the growing shortage of ton- nage and other factors Five months, 1914 **
