Mesure, Benjamin and Potte, in their share report, dated Friday, the 31st of August, 1917, state:
Our market still remains in a quiet state, and the volume of business passing has been very small. Exchange bas farther "advanced and investment slocks, owing to selling orders by bolders wishing to take advantage of the high exchange, have declined Accordingly. The August Settlement passed off satisfactorily on the 29th inetsns. It will be noticed that some storks, Defered Indos, Okins Sugara and Douglases principally, show a considerable decline from last week's quotatione. For sometime past, however, these stooks have been quoted at merely a nominal ratë, though-business has been done from time to time owing to forced sales at under' quotations,
The Shanghai market is unchanged, and sil stocks are quoted down.. There is a more enquiry for Cottons at the close, and. prices are somewhat firmer.
The Singapore rabber share market remains firm, with a fair businem reported. Plantation rubber comes through at 2/72 market firm. BANKS Hongkong and Shanghai Banke owing to the further advance in exchange have been done during the wook from 8600 down to $675, at which latter rate there are now bayers.
