A Japanese paper says that 20 cargo vessels, each of 9,000 tons. aggregating 180,000 tons, will be built at the Kawasaki Dockyard in Kobe in 1918. Japan's New Floating Deck.
The floating dock which the Japanese captured from the Germans at Tsingtau is to be taken to Kobe and leased to the Mitsu Birhi Works after being repaired at Basebo. It is stated that the Mitsu Bishi will pay to the Government Y.20,000 a year for the use of the dock.
Admiralty Notice.
An Admiralty Notice to mers published in the Gazette" states that in view of the dangery of H. M. ships closing vessels, apparertly neutral, British, or Allied traders, but which are in reality Garman raiding cruisers, It is necessary to adopt a special boarding procedure as a measure of precaution. This procedure has been notified to all neutral and Allied Powers. Japanese Shipping Concern. On the 7th inst, the leading, shipowner's and shipping men of Kobe and Nishinomiya held a meeting end decided to establish a new company to be called the Kobe Shosen Kaisha with a capital of 3,000,000. It is said. that the capital will be provided? - by the promoters, of whom there are thirteen, and shares will not be offered to the public. The new company is to engage in the marine transportation business generally, besides chartering, buying and selling steamers. The chief promoters are Mersra Uchida Shinya, Katsuda Giojiro, Hashimoto Kizo, Ida Matakichi, Mikami Toyotake, Iwaki Ukichi," Hachima Kensuke, and Matsui Hisao. The managers are Messrs. Matsuoka Yoshikaza, Matsumoto, Hirokichi and Fukui Sutei-bi, and the auditors Messrs. Iyenishi Kamesaburo and Yotsui Küchiro.

of captains, officers and men of the merchant service who have become broken in mental or physical health during war ser- vice, and has decided that under- certain circumstances they will be admitted to the benefits of the Injuries in War Scheme. It is stipulated that the men must be in the direct or indirect pay, of the Adminsity. In such cases death or disablement due to aggravation of sickness, which was latent and would not of itself disable, but did so by reason of the nature and condition of the employment, is considered as entilling the sufferers to the benefits of the scheme. There still, however, remains the case of the masters, officers or seamen, who break down while employed on a ship running in private employ, and we believe we are correct in stating that in such instances the Board of Trade shou'd be communicated with."
