For the quarter ended. in December 1916, the total numberi and tonnage of rssels which", entered ardo'eared at Amoy was 38 vessels of 488,972 ton- which, i when compared with, the same quarter the previous year, shows a decrease of 4 vessels 'and' 17,8.6 tons. The percentages of the different flags being 3+4.

Launched in Japan. Japanese steamers launched since January last to the end of : April, totalled 7 with a tonnage of 66,8.7. The returns for last April .comprised the ss. Shinzo Maru, 2,600 tons, launched at the Uraga Dockyard on the 19th; che 8.8. Nagano Maru, 9,777 toas, at the M tsubishi Dockyard at Nagasasi on the 25th; and the s.5, Daifuku Maru No. 4, 5,60 tons, at the Kawasaki Dockyard on the 23rd. These to be launched dur- ing May include two ships of 1,200 tons at the Osaka Iron Werks, and hess Kuriha Maru, 5,736 to: s, at the Mitsubishi Dockyard, Kobe, in addition to one or two more likely to be completed.

The Navy Leaus has ac-. quainted the Imperi 1 Merchant Service Guild of the terms of the following resolution unanimous. ly adopted at a meeting of the Grand Council of the Navy League:-"The Grand Concil of the Navy League desires to place upon record its deep ap preciation of the magnificent. work which has been plished by the officers and men of the Mercantile Marine since the cutbreak of the present con- flict, and earnestly hopes that appropriate recognition will be given to the persranel of the Merchant Service for the great services whi.h it has rendered to te nation and the Empire. It is also urged that more intim. ate relations be established in future between the Admiralty and the Mercantile Marine."
