*London Nov. 20.—Remarkable. fast regarding the importation of cosos into Germsry were stated in the Prize Court to-day when Sir Samuel Evans was asked by the Crown to condema 187 metria tons of oooom seized at North Shielde on April 18 last in the Danish eteamer Buron Stjernblad, shipped from Lisbon to Gothen berg, and claimed by the Aktie Boing Forainade Chokladfa brikeros.

There was a serious shortage in Germany at the beginning of this year, and in March the price of coon was eight or nine times the London prices. In April, it was reported that the alocks wore nearly exhausted.

All this created great induce- ments to neutrals to tranship thees commodities to Germany. In December, 1915, she smuggling of cocoa and batter from Holland to Belgium was actively carried on, and the Customs officer on the frontier was given 1,000 francs a wagon of 20 tons which got across the frontier.

Since the beginning of the year a constant traffis had taken place between Denmark and Sweden of cocoa and its products for im-] mediate transhipment to Gor- many. This traffic gradually increased until in January, 1916, it became the practice to ship cocoa beans on regular Danish ships to Gothenberg and re ship from there to Germans.

While counsel was reading an analytical chemist's affidavit ex- tolling cocos se a food-stuff, the Judge observed that there W68 some advantage in ohange of dist.

Mr. Pollock: I believe, although one ought to be content with receiving the right propor- tion of carbo-hydrates and sibamenoids, nature requires change (laughter).
