MESOPOTAMI N IMPROVEMENTS.
Dowʊbır 31, 10.10 p.m.
In the House of Lords, "Lord Derby described what the War Office had done to supply the troops in Mesopotamis `since it took over the responsibility on July 20.
He emphasised the great difficulty of transport from Baara to the front, but claimed that the measures taken would bring the system as near to perfection as possible.
The barges originally sent out were practically useless, sa they could not pass that part of the river called the "Narrows." But many new barges were being sent out and railways were being constructed rapidly. Labour was being obtained from India.
Since July 20 the daily average of food sent up the river had risen from 222 tons to 850 tons. The troops; with few exceptions, were fully rationed, and munitions were ample.
Over 17,000 tons of clothing had been sont out since July

THE GREEK SITUATION.
Points Made Clear.
November 1, 2:00 p.m. In the House of Commons, Mr. Ronald McNeill (St Augustine's) drew attention to the Greek official statement that the Allied Governments refused to recognise M. Venizelos and' his government.
Mr. A. Lynch (Clare W.) strongly criticised the Foreign Office for "propping up that outpost of Germanism, King Constantine."
Lord Robert Cecil, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, took strong exception to Mr. Lynch'a speech: We desired nothing, he said, more than Greece's greatness and prosperity. We believe in benevolent neutrality as the proper attitude for Greece, but we believe that anything which separates her from the Allies must end in disaster for her, which will last long beyond the present war.
