A telegram from Amsterdam says the "Tyd" learns from a Gerais, source that the submarines are supplied by sub- marine transports stationed at a fired time and place in the Atlantic. The new submarining is the result of a compromise between Dr.Bethmann von Bullwegand hisopponents in the Reich. stag. The Germans expect great things from attacks on American munitions transporis.

U.S. Reply to the Allies.

Reuter's correspondent at Washington reports that Mr. Lanswg, decrciary of State, after conferring with President Wilson at Long Branch, declared that there had been no decision regarding the polscy of the Umted States on the matter of the new German Submarine activity. ULTIMATUM TO GREECE.

Entire Greek Fleet Asked For.

October 12, 1.10 8.m. Reuter's correspondent at Athens reports that Admiral Fournet has sent an ultimatum to the Greek Government demanding as a precautionary measure, with a view to the security of the Allies, the handing over of the entire Greek feet, except, the Avaross, the Lemnos, and the Kilkish, by 1 o'clock this afternoon; also the control of the Piraeus- Larissa railway.

The Greek Minister of Marine has promised compliance with the Allies' demands.

Why the Request In Made.

October 12, 1.50 a.m. Renter's correspondent at Athens states that in bis ultimatum Fournet Admiralexplains that the despatch of artillery and ammunition to the interior, the movements of Greek ships; and the continued activity of the reservist leagues arouse fears of a disturbance of order at points where tho Allied fleet is anchored They also endanger the security of the Allies' troops in the Balkans.

The ultimatum also demands the disarming of the Kilkish, Averoff and Lemnos the dismantling of the forls on the coast and the handing over of the two forte commanding the fleet's moorings; also the control of certain ports.

The Transfer Already Begun.

October 12, 1.55 a.m.

A telegram from Athens states that the transfer of the Greek Navy has begun. The lighter craft with be despatched. to the Provisional Government at Salonies, while the heavier warships will be disarmed and left in the Kerathini Gulf. The French Naval authorities this afternoon took over with- out disturbance all the warships. Some of the crews have already been removed, while others are being landed. French crews are being placed in the small ships. There is no ex- citement in Athens or the Piraeus.
