INSUFFICIENT LIGHT.

(To the Editor, of the Hongkong Telegraph}..

Sir. The public often com plains of the inefficient light for the long flight of steps leading down from Arbuthnot Road to Wyndham Strest, but I should like to suggest that the authoritien should place an electric arc light instead of the present dim and low gas lamp. This proposed im provement would not only protect pedestrians, but would help the police a great deal in watching the undesirables hiding in the dark places near the houses of Arbuthnot Road and Wyndham Street-especially those high houses at the top of the terrace, in Arbuthnot Road.

Hoping the authorities will take

a hint to this effect.
