p.m. In reply to representations regarding the effect of high freights on cotton prices, in regard to which the example of Japan in subsidising shipping and providing war insur- ance at a low rate was mentioned, the Board of Trade state that they are unable to take special action in the case of cotton. as compared with other cargoes. The Times" emphasises its importance to the Lancashire cotton industry, and urges the Government to make the fullest investigation before it is too late.

It is officially announced from Egypt that hostile aero- planes bombed Port Said on the morning of September 1, dropping 23. bombs. There were some casualties but no damage.

Enemy Airships Drop Bombs.

It is officially announced that several hostile airships attacked the East Coastal 11 o'clock yesterday evening, and dropped bombs at a few places.
The raid is still in progress.
One Zeppelin Felled.

The attack was made by more airships than in previous
raids on England.
The Eastern Counties and London were apparently the objective.
The attack on Londen was Lenten off. Que raider was felled and was in flames.
Many bombs were dropped at widely separated localities, but no reports of casualties or damage have been received.,
