The s.s. Japanese Prince.

London, December 6-The British steamship.Japanese Prince" recently was attacked by a Ger- max submarina, but succeeded in escaping, according to informa tion received here to-day. The Japanese Prince is of 4,876 tons ross, and was build in 1911. She is owned the Prince Line, Limited, of Newcastle. The following unofficial account of the incident was placed at the dis posal of the press: "The steamer Japanese Prince, of the Prince Line, Newcastle-on-Tyne, with a large crew and a considerable number of passengers, recently encountered a German submarine. For five and one-half hours she struggled to get clear, being heavily shelled during the greater portion of that time. The captain. noon.stood pluckily at his post and handled the vessel with conspicu- ous ability and judgment. "A result of his efforts, with the›› hearty co-operation of his craw, the Japanese Prince was ultimate- ly able to elude the submarine, and was brought into port with all aboard safe and sound. As
