PRINCE OF

THE: COMPULSION BILL

THE OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

January 6, 5.30 alin.

The morning papers generally admit that Mr. Asquith made out a case for compulsion of single men

nothing more.

M

The Times says the Bill fulfils Mr. Asquith's pledge and The Daily Max says the speech has satisfied unprejudiced critics.

The Daily Chronicle states: If compulsion is to be introduced it could hardly be introduced more unobjectionably.

These represent the spirit of the comments of all the other papers with the exception of the Daily News which think a general election in a few weeks is probable.

Recently, however, the voluntary avy (Swatow):- recruits had failed to provide the necessary trained reserves and Mr. G. D. Fitxipios now the pledge to married men must be redeemed. He bad hoped Mr. J. M. Forbes the war might be finished with voluntaryism which had done so Mr. W. G. Lay..... well. He did not consider the present change darogatory to the MW.G. Lay principle of Tolantaryism as it only affected one class of men among H. G. H. Flatcher whom there were a certain number with poor ideas of the duties of Mr. Teo Tee Swee a citizen, bat, while there were some shirkers, there were also Mr. A. R.
