movo" had been forecasted some months ago when the announce ment was made that the earnings. of the Canadian Pacific Railway and those of the company accoun festa would be differentiated, The new company formed, the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company, Limited, will take over the management of both the Allan
and O. P. R. fleste on Oct. 1 of this year. The Allan Line is the first line with which the Canadian government contracted for mail service. The first mail contract wasn made in 1850 by the British gov ernment for a fortnightly mail sor vica of steamers from Halifax to Liverpool and Baston, with Mr.S: Cunard of Halifax. This was fol lowed in 1853 with a confriol; Leave Hongkong made by the Canadian govern- ment with Messrs. H. and A. Allan for a fortnightly service of ato- amers between Liverpool and Portland in winter. The first eteamer was the Canadian, built in dent Altiage the first indepen
