Sai, who came hore from Obins a few days ago, is simply inveg- tigating the steamship situation for the Chicers Government and has no authority to negotiate for: the purchese of Paoifio Mail ships. It is reported, however, that an important banking syndicate has ben formed, which is negotiating for an option on the stook control of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. now held by the Southern Pac'fo. The syndicate, as re ported from New York, 'is composed of Hoyden, Stone and Co., Ladenborg, Thalman and Co., and Hallgarten and Co. Tae option reported as being negotiated will give the binkera the right to the stock at 33. The Southern Pacific Co. owns 811- 080,000 of the $20,000,003 stock of the Pacific Mail. It is believed. that before an option on thin control could be given to 4 syndicate arrangements would baya to be made whereby the minority stockholders of Leave Hongkong Pasido Mail would have an equal opportunity to obtain stock. For this a meeting of stookholde a might be neces sary for action upon the option proposition. After being idle at Exgle hact our two years, the has been moved to prepare for a Norwegian steamer Admiralen

voyage to France. The vessel has been purchased from the Facific Sea Products Co. by a newly organised oorporation, the Ad- miralen Steamship Co., Ltd., to load a cargo of lumber at Van- couver, B. C., going to Europe via the Panama canal.
