The Cotton Gazelle, the well- known journal and organ of the cotton trade gives some amazing statistics. The figures show that the total stocks in Germany on the cutbreak of war were 483,000 bales (of 500lb. epoh); that 243,- 000 bales were exported from the United States to Germany during August, and that the total German consumption during 1914-16 is estimated at1,800,000 bales of cotton.
