BOMB THROWN AT SHANGHAI'S GOVERNOR,
FUTILE ATTEMPT ON ADMIRAL TSENG,

Shanghai, August 19, 5.10 p.m.
A bomb was thrown at Admiral Tsong, the Governor of Shang hat, this afternoon, as he was entering a motor car at the Kia Lee Yuen wharf.
The bomb was badly aimed and exploded against the wall,

Admiral Teong, interviewed by our correspondent, said that be went to the wharf to say Jarewell to his wife, who was going to Tientsin, at ons p'clock in the morning, and was walking off the pontoon towards the car, when he felt something pass him and heard
an explosion.
The bomb was well made and part of it was found in the road- way, and the other part went into the river.
An ex soldier from Tientsin who was on the pontoon at the time has been arrested on suspicion, otherwise there is no clue.
SHANGHAI SENIOR WARDER CHARGED WITH MURDER.
ALLEGED THAT HE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LIQUOR.
Shanghai, August 20, 1.20 am, The case in which Macfarlane the senior warder of the Munici- pal Gaol is charged with murdering his wife, is being tried in the police court. It is alleged that the prisoner was drunk and that on entering the house he hit his servant with the batt of the gun and then shot his wife in the head. Death was instantaneous. He then fired two shots at a lady caller who, although wounded in the loge, escaped with Maofarlane's two children.
