Coal,
Messia, Wheelock and Co.'s report for the fortnight ended, May 13 states that owing to the very acute stage that the political tension between Japan and Chins arrived at during the put fort night there was no business done. in this market at all; happily, the crisis is cow over and the "situst on seems to be clearing up, therefore, business is likely to b resumed at an early date. Sup- plies of Fushen coal are still shirt and the mines are experieto jpg great difficulty' with the ex- port on account of the sarvily of tonnage. Kaiping cos! deliveries have been very brisk daring the. last fortnight and the market re- ains ady, the carcity of tor- ange still being felt."
Copper.
Ate meiting of the Namaqua Copper Company held in London on April 16, dir. T. V. Anthony, a director, reviewed the curse of the Copper mark., more particu. larly since the commencement of the war. He in'd they leerned from a reliable American scurce that the world's outpat in 1914 was about 900,000 for, against 1.000,000 tobe in 1913, the Laited States being accountable for 40,000 tons of the falling off. Production there, however, wag gradually resuming its normal proportions, and it was to bo feared, therefore, that copper was already accumulating on that side of the Atlantic and that, although so long as the war lasted no important reactica in price waR likely to take place with a return to normal conditions the potestialities of production would once more a wart themselves and would probably compel's rotura to prices more in unison with the relations of supply and demand."
Salvarsan Made in Japan.
The stoppage of German ex- ports by the war line resulted in attempts being made in several countries to manufacture medi. cinal preparations of which Ger- many bad virtually a monopoly, esys the Nagasaki Press", "Sal- vatan," or as it is commonly known "006," a medicine invented by a German medical scientist in co-operation with Dr. Hats, n Japanese, and hitherto exclusively prepared in Germany, is now to be manufactured in Japan. Several professors of the Imperial University have been engaged since the outbreak of hostilities in producing the medicine and their efforts have just reached anocess. Arrangements have been made 4o appropriate Y72,000 from the emergency fund" of the Depart- ment of Finance towards the cost of the enterprise.
A Point Raised on Export Bean
Oil.
The S. M. R. Co. Experi mental Been Mill sold Y60,000 worth of Bran Oil pat out by the extraction system early last April to Meaare, Yenomoto and Co., who rosold it to Mesers, Kolera and Co., who have exported their purchase to Europe. The Man- churia Daily News understanda that Meaars. Kodera Bad Company have not yet paid for their pur- chase on the ground that some doubt is entertained as to the acceptance of the cargo by the consignees in Europe. This doubt is based upon a report that some local people have telepraph- ed to Europe that the Kodera consigaments consist of a mixture of Bean Oil manufactured by the expression and the extraction systems, although by the original ontract the whole consignments) should be extraction oil ex- olusively
