Since the issue of our last report the volume of business transacted has been emill and confined to a few stocks. Values on the whole, however, have not given way much, and at the clore there are signs of our seeing a more active market during the coming week, Shanghai Cotton shares which were quiet early in the week, with shares offering at reduced rates are now firm with buyers at the top rates reached prior to the decline.

Fire Insurances. China Fires are still in demand at $134 and Hongkong Fires at $385. No transactions have been reported in either of these stocks during the past week and there are no shares obtainable except at an advance on quotations,
Shipping: Douglas'e have improved from $48 to 850 buyers, with numerous sales at intermediate rates, Hongkong, Canton and Macao Steamboats are wanted at $23, China and Menilae at $4.90 and Indo Chinas at the reduced quotation of 807. Sales being reported to-day at $98. Star Ferries have sollere at $37 x div. Shell Transports have sold at P3/-, 03/6 and 93/9 during the week; the London quotation is 95/0 sellers.
