Advices from New York state that the controlling intereat in the Quebec Steamship Company has been acquired by Furness, Witby, and Co. The company owne six vessels aggregating nearly 20,000 tons, and has been. the principal trading line from. New York to Bermuda and the Weet Indiee. Strong competition baa been experienced in recent ̈ ̈ ̈ years, and it is anticipated that “ under themanagement of Furness, Withy, and Co. business to Ber- muda will be considerably extended. Early in 1913 Mosare, Barnese, Witby, and Co. secured an important holding in the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company, which concern had absorbed most of the interior steamship lines in Oatario, and Quebec, except the veasela of the Canadian Pacific and the Inter- Lake Company. Io June, 1913, the directors of the Richelieu and”« Ontario Navigation Company ratified a plan combining the company with 11 other Canadian. navigation enterprises.
