Upwards of two hundred eligible men with some military training from the Treaty Pitts of China- are already on the way Home to enlist, their passages being de- frayed by voluntary contributions from British Bubjects in China who from a variety of reasons are themselves unable to go. Hong- kong has until now seemed backward in this respect; but the reasons for the delay in initiating sach a proposal in the Colony are „ wall understood. Many Iccal men have been eager to go; some, indeed, have already gone, and now that the Colonial Govern ment has offered to defray the expense of sending home eighty recraits for the New Service B talions we have no doubt that Hongkong will be as well repre sented in the Imperial Army by patriotic citizens the cther Crown Colonies of the East.
