Airships In the War.

So much was expected from the ase of airships in the war that the almost complete absence of any reference to them in the official dispatches is quite noteworthy, Both France and Germany have stood out among the nations of the world for their faith in the fature value of airships in warfare. France possesses a larger number of aeroplanes then any other country in the world, but Ger many bas claimed for her aircraft superiority of construction. Faith in the value of airships in war has apparently been strongest in those who know least about serial navigation. We have just alight- ed on a paper written a few mouths before the ombreak of hosulities by Major A. v. Parseval, whose name in connection with airship construction is known throughout the world, and it ia: particularly interesting at the present time to read the views ho has expressed regarding the agos of aircraft in war. The effective carrying power of the large non- rigid ships, he says, does not grow in proportion to their in- crease in size, for with ships of large dimensions apeedis question of vital importance.

To-day's telegrams are even more reassuring than were those of yesterday as to the splendid stand made by the Allies in the vicinity of Paris, There can be no doubt but that the French capital ger last week, as it was evident that the entire strength of the German main Army was concen- trated in an attempt to invest the No. 1683. city.
