In accordance with a resolution passed by the general meeting of shareholders on December 8, last, an issue to shareholders has been made of 5,000 now shares of f. 1,000 at 145 per cent, which were paid For January 6, 1914. The total paid-up capital has thus boon increased to f. 50,000,000,

Company, Limited, states that the gross profits from all sources for the year to March 31 (incinding balance brought forward) amount ed to £351,858, lees salarias, expenses, depreciation, taxzation, etc., leaving a net balance of £131,282. to the Morinda, which has inken up her regular running to Papua, the Marsins bas replaced the Malaita in the New Hebrides service. Branches have been established at Sourabaya, Jaya, and at Apia, Samos. Al Townes- ville an extensive forro concrete balk store is in contse of erection, and at Perth, WA, a centrally. situated building site has been acquired, upon which suitable buildings will be created during the present year. The prospects for the ensuing financial year are encouraging, and it is anticipated that further tonnage will be necessary for the growing business of the company.

B. I. and Luggage Coolles. Owing to the number of com plainte from passengers arriving. and departing by steamers over the excessive charges made by coolies for handling their luggage, the British India 8. N. Co. anthorities in Rangoon have introduced, since July 1, the scheme recently inaugurated in Madras, with success, of employ ing coolies themselves instead of by contract and giving passengers by their steaméra free delivery.
