The Royal Hungarian Steam Navigation Co. has sold its stea mer Baross, 2,090 tons, to Japan ese buyers and she will be registered at Dairen. Formerly the Apex, she was built of steel in 1888 by Palmers Shipbuilding Co. of Newcastle with dimensiona 270ft. by 37 8ft. by 18 8ft. The bottom plating of the vessel is of iron.

The Buyo Maru. Salvage work on the Japanese stoomer Boyo Maru, 2,934 tons, which went ashore off the coat of Soma during a gale on Cop- tember 14, is progressing satis factorily the vessel having been mored about 60 feet from where she stranded. Giver a con- tinuance of fine weather, the salvore, the Yashima Salvage Association, have every "hope of being able to refloat the vessel.
Navigation Danger. It is notified that the wrech of
sunk in 15 feet of water at low water of spring tides in Village By, Chefoo Harbour. From the wreck, Tower Hill Lighthouse. tears 8. 15 degree Emagnetic, distant 2.16 miles. "A green buoy, having the word "Wreck "daint- ed on it in white, has been moored to ssaward of the wreek. The funnel of the vessel is visible ubaye water.

Important Surveys.
The United States navel collier Hannibal, which recently arrived at New York, has been making. new surveys of the Caribbean Sea which will be of great advantage
to mariners upon the opening of the Panama Canal. The Ban- pibal left Portsmouth (N.H.) nearly a year ago to engage in this work. The waters covered are already frequented by B con the trade route from Havana by siderable merchant fleet, while
the Yucatan Channel is becoming mre and more important.
New Shanghal Regulations. Notice is given that the Treaty Power Conegls have authorised the following amendment of Clausea 29 and 30 of the Harbour Regulations for the port of Shanghai:
