It appears that the vessel, which naturally had a slight list to port, had the coal from her bunkera removed while on the slip to allow of plantiffs getting at the work and, on its being restored by the orow of the ship, was stowed unequally in the bunkers, an excess having been placed on the port side, with the result that when the vessel was launched,. she listed heavily to port and a number of open rivet holes near the waterline were submerged, filling the vessel and causing her to founder.

Defendant contended, that on January 9, relying on the skill and knowledge of the plantiffs, he handed the vessel over to them. for repairs, part of the work be ing to double the sheerstrake for | three quarters of the length of the ship amidships. Before the re- pairs had been completed and with numerous rivet holes open along both sides of the ship, and while she was still under the con- trol of the plaintiffs, the latter, to suit their own convenience, at tempted to launch the vessel on January 25, and permitted her to sink at the entrance to the slip- way. The Shipping Boom.

It is well known, says a corre- spondent of the Shipping Gazette, that the number of shipping deals Telephone No. 141 successfully accomplished during the last two or three years is small in comparison with those in connection with which the negoti stions have, for one reason or another, finally proved abortive, The shipping boom has been re- sponsible for a very stiff back being set up by many companies and firms whom their more power- fal osmpetitors have desired to absorb, and matters have from that cause hung fire in a number of oases.
