The following recommendations by H.E. the Governor were referred to the Finance Com- mitten :-
A sum of $85 in aid of the voje Public Works, Extraordin“ ary, Hongkong, Miscellaneous, Miscellaneous Works.
A Bum of $2,800 in aid of the vote Public Works, Recurrent, Kowloon, Water Works, Water Account, (Matera, etc.)
A sum of $2,500 in aid of the voté Public Works, Extraordin ary, Hongkong, Buildings, Ad- ditions to Printing Office, Victoria Gaol.
A sum of $375 in aid of the Tote Post Office, Other Charges:- Rent of Telephone Exchange, $25 Transport, $350: Total, 8375.

The following recommendation by H.E: the Officer Administering.. the Government, was referred to Finance Committee:-
A sum of $26,000 in aid of the vote Public Works, Recurrent, Hongkong, Water Works, Main- tenaies of City and Hill District.
Hon, Attorney General moved the following resolution :-Re- solved that in accordance with the requirements of Section 8 (2) of the Statute Lawe (New Revised Edition). Ordinance, 1911. the "Now Revised Edition" of the Hongkong Ordinances prepared by Mr Chaloner Grenville Alabas- ter, and now laid before the Council, is approved.

Shanghai. Received Aug. 28. The troops were mainly resting outside Nunking on. Wednesday, but the oruisers and the guns of the Pakow force shelled the city all day long.
The rebels are reported to be arhausted, and the city in crowded..

A combined attack on Nanking is expected to be made on Thursday by the cruisere and Generals Chang Haun, Li and Feng Kuc-obang separately leading the three columns of trosp"..
General Feng Kushang crossed the river above the city yesterday.
The German cruiser Emden while making for Wuhu reported being fired on by guns at Fort Pillar and Point Marton. The Emden then cleared for action and silenced the rebel artillers.
The revolt in Szechuan Province is spreading.

London. Received Aug, 28. Reuter's Berlin correspondent states that the Com- mander of the German Craiser Squadron in the Far East reports that the rebols occupying one of the Wuhn forte on the Yangtse fired from cannon and rifles on the cruiser Emden, which replied, eilencing the fort in 25 rounds.
