General Chang now holds Purple Mountain, which the rebels have furiously attacked, but without succoss.
The Government military authorities are disembarking troops at Chiakiang, and these are entraining for Nanking. Five cruisers are also proceeding to Nanking from Chinkiang, while three Rogi- ments of General Feng Kuc-chong's troops have crossed the Yangtse fr in Pukow under cover of artillery, and these propose to make en aneault on Taiping Gate.

Sir-With reference to the stranding of yet another vessel on the Paracels it seems that some-
thing ought to be done to have this danger to navigation lighted or otherwise marked.
