TRAFFIC CONTROL.

Though erhaps our railway system in Ubina does not yet profets the complexity of the home lines and will not require any very elaborate system of con- trol for many years, it is interest- ing to study the new methods | lately introduced on the L. and N. W. R. at home.

A typical control office, cou- tains a large working diagram measuring at out 20 ft. by 4 ft. of the motions of the line under control. Every track, aiding, loop line, station, and signal- box is shown, as well as the innumerable private" branches| running to collieries, lostories, and so on. Small brass sockets are let into this beautifully-made. and coloured diagram throughout the lines, and every gcode train and light engine-in fact, all traffic that is not run on a fixed time-schedule is shown on the
