*** Export of Japanese Matches to
India.
مشهد
The Bill prohibiting the man- ufacture, sale, and importation of white and yellow phosphorus matobes was passed by the Legislative Council of the Gov- ernment of India on March 5th this year, and comes into force July lat. The Japaner autho ities have been officially notified of the 'enforcement of the law. Mr Uyeda, the Chief of the In- dustrial Section of the Department of Agriculture and Commerce, makes the following observations on the probable effect of the law upon Japan's trade with India:- "Since the presentation of the Bill to the Legislative Council was rumoured, exporters have avoid- ed sending the kinds objected to, and the average exports, amount- ing annually to Y300,000, have gradually been reduced to Y170,- 000. On the other hand, the ex- ports of safety matches yearly increased, and the latest statistics place the total exports of matches at Y1,800,000. In these circum- stances, the prohibition of white and yellow phosphorus_matches in India will not aEet Japanese trade very much. Only 10 per ront, of the total amount is al fected and this will be made good by the increased export of safety matches,"
