The Wreck of the Rosecrans,

Astoria, January 8-Of the men caught in the wreck of the old transport Roseoraas not a single ono oscaped with his life. Most of those lost when she struck on the bar wore carried down and drowned in the wreck Lut three managed to make their way to the topmast, which projected from the water, and there they olung for several hours. They could be made out from shore and by lifeboats that put off to the - relief of the stamet but it was impossible to rescue them. The C. P. R's New Boat. Beyond the cabled message" from Ottawa, say the "L. and 0. Express" nothing has been made public regarding the contract which the Canadian Pacific Rail- way Company have placed with Messrs. Barclay, Curle and Co., of Glasgow, for two new steamers, but it is understood that the vessels will not be of the "Em- Press" type, and so will not com Pare in size, speed, or sacom- modation with the two ships which the Fairfield Shipbuilding Company are construoting. They will, however, be high-class liners of the intermediate type -much finer than the Lake Champlain" and the "Lake Canitoba," which they are in- tended to supersede.
