In addition to this, pro- gross is being made with the fitting of an oil-en- gine to a torpedo-bost destroyer in association with steam-turbines, the former for uso only at cruis ing speed. But there is now to be embarked upon probably the most notable practical test, as in four ships for supplying dil to the fleet oil-engines are to be fit tod. Two of these ships, to take, 2,000 tons, are to be built in the dockyards, and they will each be fitted with two sets of oil-engines, each of 750 brake horse-power, The engines for one are likely to. be ordered from Messrs. J. Ba muel White & Co., Ltd., of Cowen, and these will be of the Nurnberg two-stroke oyole type; while in the case of the other ship the machinery is likely to be pon- struoted by Mesare, Vickers, Limited, at Barrow-in-Furness. The tenders for the construction of the two other ships, and for fitting of oil machinery in them, have not yet been received by the Admiralty. One of these is a 1,000-ton ship, the other will have carrying capacity of 0,000 tons, and twin-screw engines each of 1,250 brako horse power.
