Canton, March 19.

As stated in a speech made by the Canton Viceroy before the Salf-Govermout Society the other day, the dato for the total suppres sion of gambling has been fixed, - and thoro is now a schomo on foot forholding a procession on the 1st day of the 3rd moon to colubrató the wiping out of this evil, The effects of the rice will be ro- presunto y talinaus, and in fact the procession will be a do- monstration against gambling. On the day, the buildings of the dilleront sociotics and the guilds will bo decoratod with satorns, with inscriptions of the suppros- sion of gambling and busting of similar nature. Already many paople hara cong forward to contribute mondy towards the exponses of the procession.

The Japanese Consul at walow contemplates taking a trip to Ka-ying prafecturo, the Wei profecture and Canton and has sont a passport to the Tuotai to

a soaled. The Taotai has ro- ported to the Canton Viceroy the prapused tour of the Japanese Consul, who is instructed the diplomatic commissioner to notify the local authorities of the placos included in the proposed trip, to examine the passport and to give him protection.
